Larry LeeWelcome to the APLUS Southern Region Website!

To:  The Great Leaders of the Best Region in the Country!

By all accounts, many of us just returned from attending a great convention in Chicago (Oakbrook IL) hosted by the Central Region with the Chicago chapter playing a pivotal part.  They did a fabulous job and all elements of the convention were top notch.  The workshops, general sessions, speakers, hospitality, networking, weather, and social interaction were just sensational.  We all thoroughly enjoyed the last convention for our beloved James D. (Big Mitch) Mitchell as national president.  He was roasted and provided with many gift, accolades plus other fitting tributes.  Mitch was very gracious in passing the torch to Betty Davis-Smith, the new National President. We are proud of them both.

I want to thank each one of you for all that you have done over the years to contribute to our success as a region.  We all have made sacrifices and worked diligently to enable the Southern Region to grow membership and chapters over the years.

As you know, this year has been a particularly challenging year for us as an organization.  However, we all know what must be done to revitalize the lost memberships across the board and attract new members as well.  We must get back to the basics of making personal contact with former members to let them know that their presence and contributions to the organization have been missed.  All of us know that when someone calls or comes by to share that "you have missed" it strikes an emotional chord.  Everyone wants to be valued and appreciated in any organization.  Even in churches, the pastor is always saying things from the pulpit to "stroke his or her membership".

Each one of us must make a special effort to remember why we joined this great organization and rekindle that feeling in others that we know felt the same.  It is very easy to lose sight of what A-PLUS is really all about when we get caught up in the superficial reasons for active participation or let petty differences become mountains rather than mole hills.  Real leaders like each of you find a way to transcend the challenges of organizational dynamics to find a way to replace animosity with gratitude, replace misunderstandings with forgiveness, and most of all feelings of hatred with genuine love.  I ask each of you to make a special effort to elevate your compassion for others and meet them where they are to move forward.

I need your prayers and consistent support to move us forward to places we've never been.  I am confident that we all want to see the Southern Region retain its place of distinction in A-PLUS by leading the way with substantial membership increases, better training at all levels, more precise development for upward mobility, improved networking with technology, and meaningful mentoring at all levels.

As soon as possible, I will be calling each of you to talk and get your input on building an even greater Southern Region.  We will be starting our teleconferences back up in May to get refocused and re-committed to excellence.

I pray that you and yours are blessed and highly favored...
